Wednesday July 27th

10:30a-12:30p

* Cob Oven/Natural Building:  Cob building is a cheap, easy, and time tested way to build structures for almost any kind of function.  Come help build a cob oven literally from the ground up.  We’ll be dealing with insulation, a bit of carpentry, making cob mud batches, and hopefully finish plasters.  We will talk about cob on a larger scale and other natural building techniques as we work.  When we’re finished we can fire it up and stuff ourselves with pizza and bread and pies!  This project will take a few days so look for us on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and come get dirty…  (Jorie)

Using methods from popular and experiential education, we will look closer at the ways we work together in the direct action and radical organizing context. (Hazel)

2:00p – 4:00p

*An Introduction to Transphobia and Cissexism:
Transgender 101 workshops often prioritize topics and questions like terminology, what is a transperson anyway?, how do hormones and surgery affect transpeople physically?, and the difficulty non-transpeople have with using the correct pronouns for trans people. Terminology and other basic info will be covered but this workshop will utilize an intersectional analysis of systems of oppression to focus on how gender-variant people are oppressed in America. Some of the topics covered include: common prison/jail/police policy, job, healthcare, and housing discrimination, colonialization, poverty, sex work, fetishization of trans people, sexual violence, bathroom access, body image issues, stereotypes, immigration, airport harassment, hate based violence, gender identity disorder and coercive therapy, media depictions, etc. Come with your questions, your input, and your ears. The presenter will try to meet the audience where they are. (Ariel)
